(Nashua, NH) Senior Garon Whitney recorded his second straight double-double as the Rivier University Men's Basketball team earned their third win of the season tonight with a 58-54 victory over visiting New England College.
The Dover, NH native netted 12 points and collected 11 rebounds on the evening while classmate Brian Troy (Keene, NH) dropped a game high 15 for the 3-1 Raiders. Junior Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) matched Troy's performance as he shot 50% on his way to 15 points. Junior Nick Walch (Dedham, MA) recorded 12 points and 8 rebounds in the win.
The Pilgrims (0-3 overall) were led by the duo of Ryan Schmitz and Abdirahman Mohamed, who scored 11 points each. Jaskin Melendez had 10 points to account for all of the double-digit scorers for NEC. Javon Williams came off the bench and led the team with 7 rebounds.
Rivier will enjoy a week off as they will prepare to battle Plymouth State University in the Boys and Girls Classic hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute next Tuesday night. New England College will host Newbury College next week (11/27) in their next contest.
