Raiders' late run comes up short against Suffolk

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team dropped a tough 69-66 decision this evening to visiting Suffolk University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

After a pair of free throws from junior Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) to trim the deficit to two, 59-57, Suffolk's Colin Halpin nailed a three pointer and added five more points in the final minute to secure the win for the Rams.

Rivier, now 8-10 overall and 4-6 in the GNAC, was led by Poitras who recorded 22 points on 9-of-14 from the field. Junior Nick Walch (Dedham, MA) continues to have a solid season as he netted 15 points and collected 7 rebounds. Senior Garon Whitney (Dover, NH) was the other double-digit scorer for the Raiders as he had 10 points in the loss.

Suffolk was paced by Matt Powers, who came off the bench and registered 23 points – including shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. Halpin finished with 20 points for the Rams.

The Raiders will look to get back on track as they host Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 12pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. With the win, Suffolk improves their record to 6-11 overall and 4-6 in the GNAC. They will host Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon in their next matchup.
