Troy, Raiders fall at home to Albertus Magnus College

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team suffered a tough 73-55 loss this afternoon to visiting Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The Raiders kept the Falcons in check through the first 10 minutes of action as the teams were deadlocked at 12 apiece. That would be as close as Rivier would get as Albertus was able to close out the half on a 25-11 run for a 15 point lead entering the locker rooms.

Junior Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) collected 13 points in the loss as he closes in on 1,000 for his career. Joining him in double-digit scoring was classmate Nick Walch (Dedham, MA) with 12 points. Walch also brought down 7 rebounds to lead the team. The game marked the return of senior guard Brian Troy (Keene, NH), who suffered a broken hand a few weeks ago. Troy had 4 points for the Raiders.

Albertus Magnus' offense was paced by Darius Watson who had 21 points and was 9-for-14 from the floor. Watson finished just one rebound shy of a double-double as he pulled down 9 boards. James Jennings scored all 15 of his points in the first half and Jefferson Lora added 11 as the Falcons improved to 19-3 on the season and 14-2 against GNAC competition.

Rivier, now 10-11 overall, 6-8 in the GNAC, will travel to Providence, Rhode Island for their next matchup on Tuesday evening at Johnson and Wales University. Albertus Magnus is slated to host Saint Joseph's College on February 9th.
