Freshmen pace Raiders past Wentworth

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier Unviersity Raiders opened up today's tri-match at the Muldoon this morning with a 3-0 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Rivier (5-3 overall, 1-0 GNAC) took the three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-22 and 25-12.

The Raiders cruised through the opening set as senior Kenna Finalyson (Derry, NH) was able to record 7 kills in the only set she appeared in. Junior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI), who also just played in the opening set, laced 3 kills of her own.

The second set saw Wentworth battle back late to get within two points but Rivier was able to capitalize on a few Leopard miscues to go up 2-0 heading into the final set.

Freshman Nikki Deluga (Cotuit, MA) was outstanding defensively as she contributed a game high 17 digs while classmate Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, MA) lit up the board with 7 kills. Freshman Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) checked in with 22 assists for the Raiders and fellow freshman Michelle Davis (Hampton, NH) knocked down 4 kills off the bench.

Prior to the game, Rivier University President Sister Paula Marie Buley help unveil the Championship banners from the 2011-12 season. Both the Women's and Men's programs were GNAC Champions – Women in the fall of 2011 and Men in the spring of 2012.
