Men's Basketball: Chappell explodes for 35 points in loss at Lasell

NEWTON, MASS. – The Rivier University Men's Basketball team let one slip away this afternoon as they fell to Lasell University, 88-80 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest inside the Lasell Athletic Center. The Raiders are now 3-15 on the season with a 0-5 mark against the conference while the Lasers up their overall record to 8-11 and remain unblemished in the GNAC at 5-0.

Senior Issaiah Chappell (Sunappe, N.H.) had himself a night as the veteran scored a game-high 35 points on 14-of-29 shooting from the floor. Sophomore Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, Mass.) knocked down 10 free throws on his way to an 18-point night and junior Jack McCarthy (Rowley, Mass.) added nine points and four rebounds.

Four of the five Lasell starters finished in double-figures with sophomore EJ Day (Norwalk. Conn.) leading the pack with 30 points. Juniors Kevin Vanderhurst (Lawrence, Mass.) and Jonathan Friberg (North Attleboro, Mass.) each recorded a double-double as Vanderhurst complied 19 points and 15 rebounds. Friberg ended his afternoon with 18 points and 15 rebounds while classmate Kevin Nunez (Dorchester, Mass.) chipped in with 16 points for the Lasers.

Up next for the Raiders will be another GNAC matchup with Suffolk University. The game is scheduled for Tuesday evening in Boston. Lasell will also be in conference action as they return to the court on Tuesday night with a road contest at the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). Game time is set for 8pm.
