Men's Basketball: Raiders can't top Saint Joseph, fall 101-66

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. – The Rivier University Men's Basketball team fell this afternoon on the road to the University of Saint Joseph, 101-66 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action inside the O'Connell Center. The loss sends the Raiders to 3-13 on the season with a 0-3 record against the league while the Blue Jays continue to remain red-hot at 15-2 overall, 3-0 in the conference.

Senior Issaiah Chappell (Sunapee, N.H.) led the Raiders with 23 points scored on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. Junior Jack McCarthy (Rowley, Mass.) pulled down the team-high of six rebounds while also contributing offensively with 10 points scored. Freshman Nesta Roberts (Manchester, Conn.) came off the bench and added seven points in the fourth straight loss for Rivier.

For the Blue Jays, sophomore Delshawn Jackson Jr. (Hartford, Conn.) was the game's leading scored as he finished with 26 points and freshman Taelon Martin (Springfield, Mass.) added 17 points off the bench to bolster one of the conference's top offenses. Junior Jordan Powell (Middletown, Conn.) also reached double-digits with 13 points and sophomore Jaecee Martin (Hartford, Conn.) collected the game-high of 13 rebounds in the win for Saint Joseph.

The Raiders will return home on Wednesday evening as they host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in a 5pm GNAC tip. USJ will travel south to New Haven, Conn. for a conference finals rematch with Albertus Magnus College, also on Wednesday evening. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
