Men's Basketball: Raiders fall short on the road at MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. – The Rivier University Men's Basketball team closed out the first half of their season this afternoon with a 92-69 setback on the road against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference affair inside the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium. The loss moves the Raiders to an overall record of 2-7 while the Trailblazers improve to 5-4 on the year.

Senior Issaiah Chappell (Sunapee, N.H.) was the bright star of the afternoon as he led the Raiders with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor while collecting four rebounds and dishing out three assists. Junior Tyler Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) finished with eight points as did senior Josh L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.). Junior Jack McCarthy (Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Kevin Redler (Ellington, Conn.) added seven points each and both sophomore Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, Mass.) and freshman Chance Eason-Jones (Manchester, Conn.) totaled the team-high of six rebounds in the loss.

MCLA was guided by the efforts of Ki-Shawn Monroe, who finished with a game-high double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Becker also reached double-digits with 16 points and Noah Yearsley chipped in with a 13-point night. Hayden Bird came off the bench and poured in 16 points for the Trailblazers in the win.

Rivier will return to action in the New Year as they compete in the 2nd annual Catholic Charities Classic featuring Great Northeast Athletic Conference schools – Saint Joseph's College (Me.), Emmanuel College, Rivier and this year's host institution Regis College. The Raiders will battle Regis on Thursday, January 2nd in a 3pm tip-off before taking on Saint Joseph's on Friday, January 3rd at 1pm in Weston, Mass.
