Cohoon strikes twice as Women's Soccer tops Norwich, 2-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team took care of business as they shutout visiting Norwich University, 2-0 this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest under the lights at Raider Field. The win uplifts the Raiders' overall record to 4-8-2 and a 3-7-0 conference mark while the Cadets fall to 2-10-2 and 1-8-1 in the GNAC.

Senior Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) scored both of the Raiders' goals this evening. She got the team on the board early in the first half at 11:42 as she was able to collect a pass from classmate Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and shoot it into the far corner for her eighth goal of the season.

With time coming to a close in the second half, the Cohoon-Caron connection stuck again for an insurance tally at 74:59.

That would be all that junior goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) would need as she stopped all five shots she faced on net for her third shutout of 2016. Her counterpart, Norwich's Holly Lutz, made six saves on the night for the Cadets.

With two games left in the season, the Raiders will finish conference competition this Saturday afternoon as they host Suffolk University in a 3:30pm start time at Raider Field. It will also be Senior Day for the Raiders as they get set to honor their eight departing seniors. Norwich, meanwhile, will also be in GNAC action on Saturday evening as they take on Albertus Magnus College in a 6:30pm tilt in New Haven, Conn.
