Women's Soccer upended by Saint Joseph's (Me.), 6-2

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team dropped their third game of the season this afternoon as the visiting Saint Joseph's College Monks brought a 6-2 triumph with them back to Maine. The loss moves the Raiders' overall record to 1-3-1 and are now 0-2 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Saint Joseph's improves to 3-3-1 and 1-0-1 in the GNAC.

Hayley DeGraca recorded a hat trick and added an assist for the Monks. She threaded a thru ball past the defensive line that allowed Sarah Comtois to find the back of the net just 4:29 into the contest. DeGraca would then tack on two goals at 10:51 from Colleen Sheehan and an unassisted tally at 19:47 to give the visitors a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead.

Saint Joseph's would add three more goals, including DeGraca's third, before the Raiders were able to find the twine. A foul inside the 18, allowed Rivier will a penalty kick opportunity in which senior Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was able to convert – on a low line drive into the lower left corner. Classmate Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) added an unassisted goal, her second of the season, at 84:16 to account for all of the scoring.

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) made six saves on the night for Rivier. Saint Joseph's went with a dual effort between the pipes as Brooke Troup was successful on all five shots over 60 minutes of action and Cori Balam made three saves on five attempts in her 30 minutes.

Rivier will embark on a three game road trip before their next contest at Raider Field. On Wednesday night, they travel to Nichols College for a non-conference contest with stops at the University of Saint Joseph (9/25) and Anna Maria College (9/28). The Monks will also be on the road in their next outing tomorrow at New England College.
