Women's Soccer finishes with a 1-1 tie at Nichols

(Dudley, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team drew a 1-1 tie this evening on the road at Nichols College. The double-overtime game was the second of the season for the Raiders as they move their overall record to 1-3-2. The Bison, on the other hand, earned their first points of the season as they are now 0-6-1.

Nichols found the back of the net early as junior Taylor Souza (New Bedford, Mass.) notched her third goal of the season at 15:23. Souza was able to break down the right side of the field before cutting back towards the middle and sending a shot past the outstretched goalkeeper.

The lead was short lived, however, as Rivier senior Hayley Barnard (Bedford, N.H.) placed a free kick perfectly into the upper 90 for her first goal of the season at 21:44.

That would be all the scoring in this one as the two goalies held their ground the rest of the way. Junior Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) finished with six saves over the 110 minutes with her counterpart, Nichols' Brooke Downey turning away nine shots.

Rivier will return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Hartford, Conn. for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the University of Saint Joseph.
