(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Men's Volleyball team defeated the visiting Albertus Magnus College Falcons by the score of 3-0. With the win, the Raiders improve their season record to 9-9 (4-1 GNAC). As for the Falcons, the loss drops their season record to 2-7 (1-4 GNAC).
The Raiders were simply too much for the Falcons in this one. From the very first serve, Rivier established their dominance. The Raiders stuffed virtually every Falcon attack, and picked apart their defense with extremely accurate hits. The first set was a prime example of what Rivier intended on doing for the entire match. Ultimately, the Raiders didn't back down from the Falcons. Using their team chemistry and experience, Rivier was able to cruise past the flat-footed Falcons en route to an impressive 25-8 set victory.
It didn't just end in the first set. The Raiders, with all of the energy, momentum, and skill, continued right where they left off. The set didn't last very long as the Raiders quickly buried the Falcons again by the score of 25-8. Not even 30 minutes into the match start, the Falcons faced heading home with a loss on their record. In order for the Falcons to get back into this one, they would need to improve on their defensive efforts as well as their offensive communication. Through the first two sets, there seemed to be little communication between the Falcon players. In fact, on several occasions, the ball dropped between two to three Falcons who all rushed to get the ball but failed because of a lack of communication.
The third set began the same way as the first two, with a Raider 3-0 run to start. This time however, the Falcons fought back a little bit. With a quick two kills by the Falcons, the Raiders lead was trimmed to just 1. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Rivier would re-establish themselves, racking up a 7-0 run before Albertus Magnus was forced to call time. Rivier lead 10-2. The Raiders looked as if they would make it a quick night for the fans in attendance. Which is exactly what they did as they finished off the Falcons by the score of 25-13, taking the set and overall match win by the score of 3-0.
In their next contest, the Rivier Men's Volleyball team will travel to Johnson & Wales University to take on the Wildcats in a GNAC showdown. The game is scheduled for March 21st at 11:00am. As for the Falcons, they will next play host to a GNAC matchup against the visiting Emerson College Lions. This game is scheduled for March 19th at 7:00pm.
