Stevenson defeats Rivier 3-0

(Union, N.J.) The Rivier Men's Volleyball team was defeated by Stevenson University this afternoon in the Kean University Invitational. With the loss, the Raiders drop to 2-2 on the year. With the win, the Mustangs improve their record to 4-3.

Led by senior Kyle Wisner (York, Pa.) the Mustangs jumped out to a 10-4 lead the first set before Rivier cut the deficit to 13-11. Despite their attempts to come back, Stevenson with some excellent offense, shut down the Raiders and won the first set on a kill by junior Patrick Schuyler after the Raiders had pulled within 23-20. Moler totaled 12 assists and three digs in the opening frame.

In the second set, Rivier took an early 7-5 lead. Despite the hot start by the Raiders, the Mustangs would eventually fire back to tie the set at 9-9. A block by senior Kyle Wisner (York, Pa.) sparked the Mustangs which forced Rivier to call for a timeout. The surge continued as the Mustangs took a 20-13 lead before Patrick Schuyler (Harrisburg, Pa.) ended the second set with a kill to give Stevenson a 2-0 lead.

The start of the third set was back-and-forth, tied at 6-6 before the Mustangs took a one-point lead, 19-18. Back-to-back points gave Stevenson a 21-18 advantage before a kill by Schuyler, and a Raider attack error, gave the Mustangs the victory and the three-set sweep.

Rivier had good performances turned in by Chris Markuson (Cupertino, Calif.) who led the Raiders with an impressive 14 kills. Tyler Blank (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded 28 assist for the Raiders while teammate Nick Ochoa () recorded 6 digs.

Stevenson had good performances turned in by Kyle Wisner (York, Pa.) who recorded a team-high 8 kills. Wes Richardson (York, Pa.) and Patrick Schuyler (Harrisburg, Pa.) each had 7 kills while David Moler (York, Pa.) recorded 28 assists.
