Raiders clip Eagles 3-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Men's Volleyball team defeated the visiting Daniel Webster College Eagles 3-0 in their second match of the afternoon in the Muldoon Gymnasium. With the win, the Raiders improve their record to 7-6 (3-0 GNAC). With the loss, the Daniel Webster College Eagles drop to 1-8 on the year.

The first set made for some exciting play. Rivier began the set with an impressive 6-0 start. Simply catching the Eagles flat footed, the Raiders were able to cash in. Despite the slow start, the Eagles were able to bounce back from the deficit and make the set a rather competitive one. The Eagles fought hard but were ultimately denied by the stronger willed Raiders, losing 25-20.

The second set began with another great Rivier run. Using their momentum from the previous set, the Raiders were able to quickly jump out to a 5-1 lead. The Eagles however, would not be so easily defeated. Using a run of their own, the Eagles were able to bounce back from the deficit and tie the game at 5. The Raiders would end up taking the lead 6-5 on the next play and never relinquished it, winning the set by the score of 25-21.

The third set began very close in score. In fact, for most of the set, both the Raiders and Eagles played evenly. Point for point, the two teams traded offensive strikes. For a while, it looks as if the Eagles could fight their way back into this one. Unfortunately for them, the Raiders had other plans, taking a 14-10 lead and pushing it quickly to 18-14. From there, the Raiders put the finishing touches on the match, winning the set by the score of 25-20, and winning the game 3-0.

The Rivier Men's Volleyball team return to action on the road to take on the Lasell College Lasers. The game is scheduled for March 3rd at 7:00pm. For the Eagles, they will next play host to Lesley on March 3rd at 7:00pm.
