Field Hockey blanked by Colby-Sawyer, 6-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team dropped a non-conference contest this evening, 6-0 to visiting Colby-Sawyer College at Raider Field. The loss is the Raiders' seventh of the season as they are now 3-7 overall while the Chargers improve 8-2.

Colby-Sawyer's Rachel Fisher scored the eventual game winner at 27:11 in the first half when she knocked home an Alie Jones pass for the 1-0 lead.

The Chargers offense erupted over the final 35 minutes as they scored five times in a nine minute span. Ashley Mikkila netted an unassisted tally at 48:00 followed by a pair of Paige Viens goals (52:42 & 57:42) and Sierra Schuster's lone goal of the game. The flurry came to an end at 57:57 when Jones scored an unassisted goal of her own to account for all the scoring. Jordan Teixeira assisted on the second goal by Viens.

Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) was busy in net this evening as she made 14 saves on 18 shots. Freshman Katherine Papele (Swampscott, Mass.) finished the final 12 minutes of action as she stopped two of the four shots she saw.

Colby-Sawyer's Xena Ras earned the shutout with six saves on six chances.

Rivier will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference play in their next outing on Saturday night. The Raiders will host Johnson & Wales University for a 6pm game. It will also be Senior Night at Raider Field as the program honors the three seniors who are set to graduate next spring.
