Field Hockey tripped up by Anna Maria, 3-1

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team fell to the visiting AMCATS of Anna Maria College this afternoon, 3-1 in the first home game for the Raiders this season at Raider Field. The Raiders slide to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference while Anna Maria improves to 3-3 and 1-1 in the GNAC.

The AMCATS got the scoring started in the opening half when Kaitlyn Moran netted an unassisted goal in the 21st minute. That would be the only tally of the half as the goalkeepers kept it a 1-0 game.

Sophomore Linsey Roth (Tynggsboro, Mass.) knocked home the equalizer at 47:51 as she collected a pass from classmate Marykate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass.) and knocked it home. However the tie would be short lived as Anna Maria's Lauren Beauregard snuck on past Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.). Nicole Denver was credited with the assist as she was able to spring Beauregard past the defensive line.

Moran would add an insurance goal in the 63rd minute as she was able to collect a free ball and sprint down field, juke the final Raider defender and dribble around Foster for her second goal of the afternoon.

Foster had a busy afternoon as she stopped 14 of 17 shots she faced on net. Her counterpart, Rhiannon Fletcher made two saves on three shots over her 70 minutes.

Rivier will return to Raider Field on Tuesday evening as they host Elms College in a 5:30pm faceoff. The AMCATS will also be back in action on Tuesday as they host New England College at 7pm.
