Field Hockey takes down Becker, 3-1

(Nashua, N.H.) A pair of goals from sophomore Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) helped to lift the Rivier University Field Hockey team to a 3-1 victory over visiting Becker College in non-conference action on Thursday night at Raider Field. The win is the second of the season for Rivier as they are 2-5 while the Hawks remain winless at 0-8.

The Raiders struck first as Roth smacked one past the goaltender at the 13:02 mark to give her team an early lead. That would be the only goal of the stanza as the teams played scoreless Field Hockey over the remaining 21 minutes.

Becker made the quick halftime adjustment and tied the game at 49:35 when Jocelyn Lebel knocked home a pass from Amy Cooper to even the score at 1-1. It was short lived, however, as Rivier stormed right back down field and capitalized just 58 seconds later when Roth netted her second of the game, third of the season, to retake the lead. Roth was set up by senior Brittani Garza (Alexandria, Va.) who placed a perfect pass to Roth in front of the net.

Garza would then add an insurance goal at 60:48 when she slapped one home from classmate Chelsea Hubicsak-Muldowney (Windham, N.H.).

The two Roth goals were all the team needed as sophomore goalkeeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) made eight saves on nine shots for her second win between the pipes. Becker's Elizabeth Jefferies made seven saves on the night.

Next up for the Raiders will be a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon.
