Keefe, Raiders battle hard but fall to Fisher 11-2

(Lynn, Mass.) For the second time in as many days the Rivier University Baseball team dropped a non-conference game against Fisher College, this time it was an 11-2 final at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass. The loss drops the Raiders' record to 0-14 while the win improves the Falcons to 20-7.

Sophomore Matthew Keefe (Bradford, Mass.) limited the potent Fisher offensive to just one run on four hits over his 5+ innings of work. Junior Lucas Palma (Bristol, Conn.) then tried to get the Raiders out of a jam but was unable to do so as Fisher exploded for seven runs in the frame – highlighted by a grand slam by senior Dominic Zaher (Chelmsford, Mass.).

The game was scoreless after the first 3.5 innings until the Falcons plated a run in the home half of the fourth on a RBI single from sophomore Adam Lucey (Malden, Mass.).

The Raiders responded right away in the top of the 6th when Nick Gagnon (Providence, RI) got the inning started with an infield single. After a sacrifice bunt that advanced Gagnon to 2nd, Rivier tied the game up at 1-1 when a Fisher throwing error on a bunt single from sophomore Jeremy Ball (Swanzey, NH) allowed Gagnon to score.

Sophomore David Feole (Scituate, RI) singled home freshman John Ciarcia (Rindge, NH) in the seventh for the second Raider run.

Rivier sophomore Marc Medeiros (Arlington, Mass.) went 2-for-4 to led the Raider offense and freshman Drew Neely (Lakeland, FL) added a base hit in the loss. Freshman Gehrig Deaver (Glenwood, NJ) tossed a scoreless, 1-2-3 eighth for Rivier.

The Raiders are scheduled to return to the field tomorrow evening as they are set to host Plymouth (NH) State at 7pm. Fisher will travel to Worcester State for a 3:30pm game tomorrow afternoon.
