Baseball gets tripped up by Fisher, 4-1

(Malden, Mass.) The Rivier University Baseball team fell on the road this evening to NAIA Powerhouse Fisher College, 4-1 in front of about 40 people at Maplewood Park in Malden, Mass on Tuesday evening. The loss leaves the Raiders searching for their first win with a 0-13 record while Fisher improves to 19-7 on the season.

Sophomore Jon Chotkowski (Tewksbury, Mass.) made his first start since March 10th and pitched a brilliant game. The left-hander allowed just one earned run over his 5.1 innings of work, striking out 8 and walking two.

The score was tied at 1 when Chotkowski came out of the game. Sophomore reliever Spencer Aguiar (Malden, Mass.) was able to record a fly out before inducing a groundball that should've ended the inning. However the throw to first was low and Fisher was able to get two runs to cross the plate.

Sophomore Alan Nahigian (Saugus, Mass.) went 2-for-4 and scored the go ahead run in the third inning. Sophomore Fred O'Brien (South Boston, Mass.) singled home Nahigian and finished the evening 1-for-1 with a RBI and 3 walks. Freshman Zachary St. Cyr (Rochester, NH) also recorded a base hit in the contest.

Fisher was led by sophomore Adam Lucy (Malden, Mass.) who went 2-for-4 with a walk. Senior Brett Remon (Salem, Mass.) recorded the teams only RBI as he worked a bases loaded walk against Rivier sophomore Nicholas Pica (Hampstead, NH) in the seventh.

Senior Pedro Escarfullery (Waterbury, Mass.) pitched well over his five innings of work as he allowed just one run on five hits and four strike outs. Sophomore Xavier Feliz (Boston, Mass.) earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief and sophomore Adam Somers (Framingham, Mass.) earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning of work.

These two teams will be back at it tomorrow night at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
