Women's Volleyball finishes regular season with a pair of wins

(Dartmouth, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team concluded their 2013 regular season this afternoon with two non-conference wins against the University of Southern Maine and the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. The wins improve the Raiders' overall record to 24-8.

Game One: Rivier University 3, University of Southern Maine 0 (Final)

Freshman Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, NY) laced seven kills in the opening match of the day's tri-match hosted by the Corsairs. The Raiders took three straight sets from USM by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-13.

Sophomore Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, MA) had six kills and the senior trio of Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI), Morgan Peck (Sudbury, MA) and Nicole Boucher (Windham, NH) each added five kills in the win. Sophomore Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) recorded 30 assists and senior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) registered 10 digs – both game highs.

Freshman Dana Mott (Medway, MA) recorded an .800 hitting percentage as she knocked down 4 kills on 5 attempts and sophomore Nikki Deluga (Cotuit, MA) was one behind Amaral with 9 digs.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth 0 (Final)

The final game of the day was a better battle as the host institution pushed the Raiders in all three sets played but Rivier was able to hold on for the win. Rivier took the three sets by scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-13.

Peacock had a tremendous final regular season game as she laced 13 kills on 24 attempts (.524 hitting percentage) with three service aces. Four other Raiders combined for 20 kills – 5 apiece from McCormack, Pisecco, Peck and Boucher – as the team earned win #24.

O'Reilly once again had 30+ assists with 32 in the game and sophomore Lyndsey Sweeney (Coventry, RI) led the team with 12 digs.

Rivier has earned the overall #1 spot in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament. They will host the 8th seeded Norwich University in the Quarterfinal round on Tuesday evening. Game time is set for 7pm inside of the Muldoon Gymnasium.
