Women's Volleyball drops all three games at MIT Tournament

(Cambridge, MA) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team competed in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Quad Tournament this past weekend where they lost all three games they played. The Raiders fall to 18-8 overall on the season with the non-conference losses.

Game One: University of Massachusetts-Boston 3, Rivier University 0 (Final)

The Raiders opened the tournament with a Friday night contest with the University of Massachusetts-Boston. Rivier dropped all three games by scores of 25-21, 25-12 and 25-16.

Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) laced seven kills and sophomore Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, MA) added five kills in the Raiders' sixth loss of 2013. Sophomore Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) accumulated just 20 assists and 9 digs. Senior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) and sophomore Nikki Deluga (Cotuit, MA) also had 9 digs each.

UMass-Boston was led by Kristen Morrison who had 9 kills and Julia Murphy who added 8 kills. Megan Pollock recorded 25 assists and Elizabeth Glavan was the defensive star with 19 digs.

Game Two: Massachuestts Insititute of Technology 3, Rivier University 0 (Final)

The Raiders began the second and final day of competition in the MIT Quad Tournament with a game against the host Engineers. Earlier this season when the two played, MIT was able to win a decisive fifth set but in this game the Engineers were able to win three straight by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-19.

Freshman Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, NY) was the offensive star for Rivier as she recorded a .310 hitting percentage with 11 kills. Peacock added 10 kills while freshman Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, MA) chipped in with 6 kills. O'Reilly had 29 assists to go along with 7 digs. Amaral added another 8 digs in the loss.

MIT was paced by the duo of Megan Gebhard and Tatiana Berger who totaled 26 kills (14 and 12 respectively). Nicole Gagnier was outstanding along the net with 41 assists and Tori Wuthrich had 13 digs.

Game Three: Western New England College 3, Rivier University 0 (Final)

The final game of the Tournament featured the Raiders vs. Western New England College. In the end it was the Golden Bears who took the three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-12.

Peacock and Silverman each had 8 kills to lead the team offensively while McCormack added four kills. O'Reilly recorded 21 assists and Amaral added 14 digs in the loss.

WNEC was paced by Devyn Frank who had 9 kills and Kelsey Armstrong added 8 kills.

The Raiders will return home for their next contest as it will be Senior Night at the Muldoon Gymnasium against Lasell College on Wednesday night. Seniors Nicole Peacock, Jessica Amaral, Morgan Peck, Nicole Boucher and Student-Manager Casey Regan will all be honored prior to the start of the game.
