Women's Volleyball defeats Trinity in five sets at the Wesleyan Tri-Match

(Middletown, Conn.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team was able to travel down to Wesleyan University for a Saturday tri-match and came away with an impressive win over Trinity College who is regionally ranked 11th in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association Coaches Poll.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Trinity College 2 (Final)

In their first game of the afternoon, the Raiders went the distance as they picked up a 3-2 win over Trinity College. Rivier defeated Trinity by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-10.

Rivier received a huge game from freshman Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, NY) as she was able to convert for 17 kills and a solid .467 hitting percentage. Senior Nicole Boucher (Windham, NH) recorded 14 kills as the Raiders got double-digit kills from a total of five different student-athletes. Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) – 12 kills, Freshman Chelsea Hussey (Lebanon, CT) – 11 kills, and senior Morgan Peck ( ) – 10 kills, were the other Raiders with outstanding offensive games. Boucher also had a hitting percentage above .400 as she checked in at .440.

Sophomore Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) registered a career high 59 assists in the five set match. Senior Jess Amaral (East Providence, RI) led the way defensively with 18 digs while O'Reilly had 15 and sophomore Lyndsey Sweeney ( ) had 12 digs.

Hannah Brickley and Kate Giddens were the only two Trinity student-athletes who excelled offensively as they had 20 kills and 18 kills respectively. Amy Hackett registered 28 assists and Kristen Carpenter had 14.

Game Two: Wesleyan University 3, Rivier University 1 (Final)

The final match of this afternoon's tri-match featured the Raiders against the host institution of Wesleyan University. In the end, it was Wesleyan who was able to escape with the victory as they won the sets by scores of 25-16, 15-25, 25-22 and 28-26.

McCormack continued to remain red hot along the net as she knocked down 14 kills the four set loss. Boucher was the only other Raider with double-digit kills as she laced 10 of her own. Peacock collected 8 kills and one block solo. O'Reilly added another 31 assists to her career day, 90 assists in two games. Amaral and Sweeney combined for 37 digs along the defensive line.

Wesleyan was led by Kim Farris who had 18 kills and Kate Centofanti added 12 for the win. Claire Larson chipped in with 42 assists and Rachel Savage recorded 21 digs.

With the split on the afternoon, the Raiders' regular season record stands at 10-5. Their next game will be on Thursday night as they travel to Mount Ida to begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Game time is scheduled for 7pm in Newton, Mass.
