Women's Volleyball completes historic season, finish 11-0 in the GNAC

(Boston, Mass.) For the second consecutive season, the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team has captured the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. This season they finished a perfect 11-0 in GNAC competition along with securing a first round bye and home court advantage throughout the tournament.

The Raiders were able to defeat both Emmanuel College and the University of Saint Joseph this afternoon in their final conference games in 2013. By games were won by 3-0 scores.

Another outstanding fact about this remarkable season from the Raiders is that they did not lose a single set in conference play as they defeated all eleven GNAC opponents in three straight sets.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Emmanuel College 0 (Final)

In a battle of undefeated teams within conference play, it was the Raiders who were able to take down Emmanuel and get a step closer to the GNAC Regular Season title. Rivier took the game easily by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-20.

Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) led the team with 13 kills and a .571 hitting percentage. Peacock also added three total blocks in the win. Freshman Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, MA) was also a huge contributing factor as she added 11 kills while senior Morgan Peck (Sudbury, MA) recorded seven kills. Sophomore Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) registered another 30+ assist game and senior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) had 13 digs. Freshman Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, NY) and sophomore Lyndsey Sweeney ( ) each had 10 digs as well in the tenth conference win of the season. Senior Nicole Boucher (Windham, NH) had an outstanding game along the net with four total blocks.

Kaitlyn Atkinson had 11 kills for Emmanuel as they fell to 9-1 in the GNAC.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, University of Saint Joseph 0 (Final)

With just one win away from recording their first perfect season of GNAC competition, the Raiders came out on fire and took three straight sets from the University of Saint Joseph by scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-12. The win was the 21st overall on the season and it also gave the Raiders a perfect 11-0 record inside of the GNAC, a first in the illustrious career of Head Coach Craig Kolek.

Rivier was led by the combination of Boucher and Peacock who had 8 and 7 kills respectively. Sophomore Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, MA) added six kills and McCormack also had six kills as the Raiders completed the ultimate perfect season in the GNAC. O'Reilly had 30 assists and Amaral had 12 digs in the game.

The Women's Volleyball team now has an overall record of 21-8 and have three non-conference games remaining before the GNAC Tournament. Next up is a home match on Halloween against Colby-Sawyer College. Game time is set for 7pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium.
