Women's Basketball bounced by Albertus Magnus

(Nashua, NH) Three different Raiders reached the double digit plateau however it was not enough as the fifth seeded Falcons of Albertus Magnus College defeated #4 Rivier, 75-67 in the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinal this evening at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The momentum shifted permanently in the favor of the visitors with about 10 minutes left to play. With just a 4 point lead, Albertus Magnus' Kendra Walker proceeded to score the Falcons' next 15 points to give her team a 16 point advantage over Rivier. In total, it was a 15-2 run over the five minutes that sealed the fate for the Raiders.

Sophomore Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) paced the Rivier offense as she recorded 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Both juniors Laura Yesu (Longmeadow, MA) and Jaclyn Penniman (Dudley, MA) had 10 and 15 points, respectively. Penniman finished with 10 rebounds on the night while junior A.J. Guidi (Derry, NH) collected 7.

Walker was the game's leading scorer as the senior from New Haven, CT had 28 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, CT) finished the night with 14 points while classmates Nicole Acerra (East have, CT) and Annie Raucci (Milford, CT) had 12 and 10 points. Acerra collected 10 rebounds for a double-double and Raucci was just one shy with 9 boards.

A 37.9% shooting percentage in the first half by the Raiders allowed Albertus Magnus to hold a slight 4 point lead at halftime. Purcell registered 9 points in the first stanzas she shot 3-for-5 from the floor while her teammates combined to shoot 9-for-24. Rivier finished the game with a 38.8% shooting percentage compared to Albertus Magnus' 44.8%.

Rivier now finishes their 2012-2013 season with a 15-10 overall record. Albetus Magnus will move on to the GNAC Semifinals on Thursday evening (7pm) as they will travel to Boston, MA to take on top seeded Emmanuel College.
