Raiders rout Daniel Webster, earn first win of 2012-2013

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team earned their first win of the 2012-2013 campaign as they trounced crosstown foe Daniel Webster College this evening, 80-57.

Sophomore Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) recorded a double-double as she scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Junior Ryan Baker (Whitinsville, MA) and sophomore Shannon Marcoux (Falmouth, MA) each recorded 11 points while Baker and senior Sarah Howard (West Greenwich, RI) collected 8 rebounds. Baker also led the team with 6 assists on the evening.

Rivier led by 22 points at halftime as they outshot the Eagles, 45.1% to 27.5% and out-rebounded DWC by a 56-37 margin.

Daniel Webster (0-3 overall) was led by Ashley Giampetruzzi who scored a game high 28 points. She just missed a double-double as she had 9 rebounds and was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line. Ashley England also found the double-digit plateau as she finished with 10 points.

The Raider defense was able to contain and shut-down Vanessa Bosques who only recorded 7 points and 3 rebounds over 30 minutes of action.

Rivier will return to action next Tuesday night as they travel to NHTI for the Boys and Girls Classic against Plymouth State. Daniel Webster will also be in action next Tuesday night as they host the University of Saint Joseph (CT).
