Yesu, Raiders power past Albertus Magnus

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team received a 26 point game from sophomore Deanna Purcell as they were able to overcome an eight point halftime deficit to edge the visiting Falcons of Albertus Magnus College, 78-68 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The Hudson, New Hampshire native – Purcell was 8-for-18 from the field and added a 10-for-11 performance from the charity stripe as she finished with 26 points. She also collected 10 rebounds as she was able to earn her second double-double of the season. Juniors Ryan Baker (Whitinsville, MA) and A.J. Guidi (Derry, NH) combined to score 27 points – 14 and 13 respectively – and junior Laura Yesu (Longmeadow, MA) added 10 points as the Raiders improved to 7-1 in the GNAC and 13-6 overall on the year. Baker also had a game high 8 assists.

Albertus Magnus was led by Lianna Carrero who went 10-for-27 from the field on her way to 26 total points. Kendrea Walker added 13 points and collected 8 rebounds for the Falcons who fall to 15-5 and 5-4 in Conference play. Annie Raucci also contributed with a team high 10 rebounds.

Both teams will be back in action on February 5th as the Raiders will travel to Lasell College for a 5:30pm tip-off while Albertus will host former GNAC foe, Pine Manor College at 7pm.
