Softball Sweeps Elms

GAME ONE:

NASHUA, NH: Rivier softball won against Elms College in non-conference action in game one this evening at Raider Diamond.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/27/23

- Score: Rivier 11, Elms 7

- Records: Rivier (16-21, 4-6 GNAC), Elms (3-26, 2-8 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Blazers were unable to score in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Christina Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, MA) singled to left sending Sarah Fraizer (Londonderry, NH) home collecting an unearned run for Rivier.

- In the second inning the Raiders scored another unearned run from Josie Maggiore's (North Hampton, NH) sac fly to center field.

- Avry Nelson (Methuen, MA) of Riv hit a sac fly to right, giving Fraizer enough time to cross the plate. Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH) reached first from a throwing error, pushing Panagiotopoulos and Haley Rapaglia (Methuen, MA) home, both unearned.

- In the fourth inning Elms put up six runs to take the lead off four hits.

- Miles of Rivier bunted for a hit and Panagiotopoulos was able to score from an error committed by first base in the bottom of the fifth. Maggiore singled to right, sending Christina Louh (Pelham, NH) home to tie the score at 6-6. Fraizer doubled to left center, earning 2 RBIs and to take the lead.

- The Raiders let up a run in top six from a wild pitch. In the bottom of the sixth, Raiders' Nelson was forced home from Maggiore being walked. Kyleigh Guerette (Merrimack, NH) earned a base hit to center, scoring Miles to increase the Raiders lead 11-7.

- The Blazers were scoreless in the seventh inning.

- Sydney Greeno (Shirley, MA) of Rivier took the win, earning four strikeouts. Jayden Dow of Elms pitched a complete game but was tagged with the loss.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: TOP PERFORMERS

- Fraizer was 3-for-5, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs

- Panagiotopoulos was 4-for-4, with 1 RBI and 2 runs

- Maggiore was 1-for-2, with 3 RBIs, 1 run, and a sac fly

GAME TWO:

NASHUA, NH: Rivier softball won against Elms College in non-conference action in game two this evening at Raider Diamond.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/27/23

- Score: Rivier 20, Elms 2

- Records: Rivier (17-21, 4-6 GNAC), Elms (3-26, 2-8 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Blazers quickly got on the board in the first inning with two runs generated by a double and a sac fly. In the bottom of the first, Haley Rapaglia (Methuen, MA) hit a double to left center collecting 2 RBIs. Christina Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, MA) hit a two-run home run, followed by a homer from Olivia Couto (Fairhaven, MA) to put the Raiders up 5-2.

- In the second inning, the Raiders scored 12 runs from two hits. Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH) doubled, and Rapaglia singled up the middle.

- In the bottom of the third, Rapaglia doubled pushing in two runners. Panagiotopoulos also doubled, sending one runner home.

- No runs were scored in the fourth or fifth innings, ending the game.

- Nicole Verette (Haverhill, MA) of Rivier picked up the win, striking out two batters. Ceara Wright of Elms was flagged with the loss this evening.

- Rapaglia was 3-for-5, with 6 RBIs and 4 runs

- Panagiotopoulos was 2-for-3, with 3 RBIs and 3 runs

- Couto was 1-for-3, with 3 RBIs and 2 runs

- Rivier softball will face Albertus Magnus College tomorrow in non-conference action at 3:00PM & 5:00PM at Raider Diamond.
