Softball Splits with NVU-Lyndon

GAME ONE:

LYNDON, VT: Rivier softball won against Northern Vermont University – Lyndon in extra innings on the road in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/16/23

- Score: Raiders 6, NVU-Lyndon 5

- Records: Rivier (13-16, 4-4 GNAC), NVU-Lyndon (5-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the top of the first inning Olivia Couto (Fairhaven, MA) of the Raiders singled to center field, pushing Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) across the plate.

- In the second inning, NVU-Lyndon put up four runs generated from a single, a double and a sac bunt.

- The Raiders earned two runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Haley Rapaglia (Methuen, MA) put the ball in play collecting a base hit, then advanced to second on an error, giving Kyleigh Guerette (Merrimack, NH) time to score. Rivier's Couto singled, sending Rapaglia home. The Hornets drove in a run in the fifth from a single to right field.

- In the seventh the Raiders added on two runs to tie the game at 5-5. Fraizer hit a popup, scoring Kylee Caetano (New Bedford, MA) and Couto singled to right scoring Rapaglia. NVU-Lyndon was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, forcing the game into extra innings.

- In the top of the eighth, the Raiders scored an unearned run caused by a pass ball. The Hornets were scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, giving the victory to Rivier.

- Raiders' Courtney Marioles (Hudson, NH) gained the win, pitching four innings this afternoon. Madison Wood of NVU-Lyndon collected the loss.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Couto was 3-for-4, with 3 RBIs

- Rapaglia was 2-for-3, with 2 runs

GAME TWO:

LYNDON, VT: Rivier softball lost to Northern Vermont University – Lyndon in extra innings in non-conference action on the road.

- Score: NVU-Lyndon 4, Rivier 3

- Records: Rivier (13-17, 4-4 GNAC), NVU-Lyndon (6-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the first inning, Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH) of Rivier got the scoring started with a single to left field, sending Kylee Caetano (New Bedford, MA) home.

- The Hornets put two runs on the board in the second inning due to a single and an error.

- In the third inning, NVU-Lyndon scored one run which was produced by a walk.

- Rivier tied the score in the top of the fifth at 3-3. Raiders' Haley Rapaglia (Methuen, MA) reached first base on a error, giving Caetano the chance to score. Miles earned a base hit for Riv, scoring Rapaglia.

- The Raiders were scoreless in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, the Hornets hit a walk off single to right field, pushing in a run to win the game.

- Nicole Verette (Haverhill, MA) of Rivier was tagged with the loss. Victoria Valentine of NVU-Lyndon took the win, striking out two batters today.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Miles was 2-for-4, with 2 RBIs

- Rapaglia was 2-for-4, with 1 RBI and 1 run

- Caetano was 2-for-4, with 2 runs

- Rivier softball will travel to face New England College on Tuesday at 3:00PM and 5:00PM in non-conference play.
