Softball Falls to Bearcats & Leopards

WINTER HAVEN, FL: Rivier softball lost to St. Vincent College today at the Spring Games in Florida.   

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/5/23

- Score: St. Vincent 6, Rivier 3

- Records: Rivier (0-1, 0-0 GNAC), St. Vincent (1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- There was no score, until the 5th inning where Raiders' Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) picked up a double with three RBIs. She had an impressive game at the plate, going 3-for-4.

- Riv was able to keep the lead until the 7th inning, where St. Vincent scored all six of their runs. Bearcats' Rachel Mason singled and earned two RBIs. Olivia Persin added on another single for St. Vincent and collected an RBI. Bearcats' Alex Dillner hit deep sacrifice fly to Giavanna Allsop (Bedford, NH) out in center field to pick up an RBI. Allie Prady secured two more runs for St. Vincent with a double down the left field line.

- Nicole Verrette (Haverhill, MA) pitched for the Raiders, earning one strikeout. Meghan Braun of the Bearcats pitched five innings, striking out one batter, and Haley Bicko pitched two innings to get the win.

- Rivier softball will face Wentworth Institute of Technology today at 2:00 PM in Winter Haven, FL.

GAME TWO:

WINTER HAVEN, FL: Rivier softball lost to Wentworth Institute of Technology this afternoon at the Spring Games in Florida.   

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/5/23

- Score: Wentworth 8, Rivier 5

- Records: Rivier (0-2, 0-0 GNAC), Wentworth (2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Riv put up two quick runs in the 1st inning, an RBI from Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) and an RBI single from Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH). Wentworth answered back with an RBI generated from Julia Bollentin's long foul ball to left fielder, Miles. In the second inning, Leopards' Katelin Howe earned an RBI by grounding out to second base, giving Kait Shawney the go ahead to score. Kaitlin Pettenger of Wentworth had a base hit and caused a throwing error, which then earned another run.

- Rivier gained a run back in the 4th inning when Courtney Marioles (Hudson, NH) walked with the bases loaded. The Leopards were not finished yet, with two runs scored in the 4th credited to Howe and Pettenger with an RBI apiece. A Raiders run was initiated by Riley Grant (Gorham, ME) who reached first base on an error, causing Miles to make it home. Bollentin's base hit in the 5th inning put Wentworth up another run, making the score 4-6.

- Frazier got ahold of the ball, to earn a double and an RBI in the 6th for the Raiders. Leopards' Pettenger and Briana Beverly wrapped up the game, each having a base hit and RBI.

- Sydney Greeno (Shirley, MA) pitched this afternoon for the Raiders, unable to get the win. Jess Rowe earned the win for the Leopards and Julie Schriver collected the save this afternoon.
