Softball Sweeps Cadets

NASHUA, NH: Rivier softball swept the Cadets of Norwich University in conference action this evening.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/3/23

- Score: Rivier 9, Norwich 4. Rivier 10, Norwich 2

- Records: Rivier (4-12, 2-2 GNAC), Norwich (1-13, 0-4 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

-  The Raiders offense got going in the bottom of the third after being down 2-1. They put three runs on the board to take the lead 4-2. Hayley Rapaglia (Methuen, MA) who hit in the first run on a single to center field. The second run came across on the same play on an error by the center fielder. Olivia Couto (Fairhaven, MA) would bat in the final run of the inning on a groundout to short.

- The Cadets would respond with a two-run inning in the top of the fourth. Two singles by Ashley Parker and Kennedy White would plate the two runs bringing the score even at four. The Raiders would take the lead right back with another big inning, where they scored four in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) plated the first on a single to left field. Christina Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, MA) continued the inning with a double to center field that would bring one more in. The inning would end on a two-run blast by Rapaglia to deep left center field. The Raiders would plate one more in the fifth to get the final of 9-4.  

- Sydney Greeno (Shirley, MA) got the win (1-5) after going four innings allowing nine hits, three earned runs, and two strikeouts. Nicole Verrette (Haverhill, MA) would come in to get her first save of the season. She pitched three innings allowing just two hits and striking out one.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Rapaglia was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, a run scored, and a home run

-  Frazier was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI

-  Maren McGinn was 3-for-4 with an RBI

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

-  The Cadets took a 2-1 lead into the fourth inning. The Raiders would then take off with a seven-run bottom of the fourth. Panagiotopoulos got the inning started and would close out the inning after batting around. Her first hit was a single up the middle that scored one. She finished the inning with a two-run single down the left field line. In the middle of Panagiotopoulos' hits, Couto would hit an RBI single through the left side. Caeli Reed (Norwood, MA) would then step into the box and delivered another RBI single. A walk and hit by pitch scored two more runs to close out the inning, with the Raiders up 8-2.

-  Rivier would reach the run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring two more. Alyssa Gerardi (Manchester, NH) would hit one in on a single to right center field. Frazier would end it on a fielder's choice after the bases were loaded and the throw from short wasn't in time at second base.

- Courtney Marioles (Hudson, NH) would get the win (2-3) after pitching in all five innings allowing just five hits, two earned runs, and three strikeouts. Allison Northup would get the loss (1-5) after pitching 3.1 innings allowing five hits and six earned runs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Panagiotopoulos was a perfect 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored

-  Frazier was 2-for-4 with an RBI

-  Laura Deaton finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs
