Men's Soccer unable to defeat Daniel Webster

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team suffered another one goal loss, this time against cross-town foe Daniel Webster College this evening in a non-conference contest at Raider Field.

Daniel Webster's Nathan Misidi (Atlanta, Ga.) tipped home a Michael Ottman (Kennebunkport, Maine) pass with just 14:15 remaining in regulation to extend the Eagles' winning streak to eight straight games over Rivier.

The Raiders are now 1-7-0 overall and Daniel Webster evens out their record to 4-4-1.

Despite a clear total shots (36-11) and shots on goal advantage (18-8), the contest was closely played throughout.

Rivier keeper Gary Archambault (Auburn, N.H.) was remarkable as he stymied the Eagles to the tune of 17 saves with 10 coming in the first half, keeping the opening period scoreless.

Eagle net minder Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) added to his all-time career shutouts leading total with his second of the season and 10th of his career, finishing with eight saves including five in the opening half.

Both squads pressed early and often in the opening frame with neither getting strong scoring opportunities but Daniel Webster pushed in the second and saw Archambault turn away three terrific opportunities including the save of the night in the 60th minute, diving to halt an Ian Hutchinson strike that carried him backward towards the goal line but held the ball from cross the plane to preserve the scoreless tie.

Archambault denied Hutchinson again the 70th, knocking down a nasty 20-yarder and later turned away a Misidi partial breakaway in the 75th.

Finally, Daniel Webster broke through as Ottman took a clear from midfield down the right side and sent what appeared to be a low shot to the far right corner. Archambault sprawled just out of reach and with the ball heading wide by inches, Misidi swopped down to tip it home for the game's lone goal.

Rivier saw two qualify chances from Jack Blessing (Wakefield, R.I.) and Michael Thomas (York, Penn.) in the second but couldn't find the equalizer. Iftimi Arapi (Peabody, Mass.) also put two quality shots on goal.

Daniel Webster also finished with a 6-1 advantage in corners.

Rivier hosts Albertus Magnus in a GNAC matchup on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. Daniel Webster is off until Saturday when they host Southern Vermont in a NECC matchup at 3:00 p.m.
