Men's Soccer falls in Double OT, 2-1

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team, for the second consecutive day and third straight home contest, fell in extra time to visiting Lesley University, 2-1 in front of about 60 people at Raider Field in non-conference action on Sunday evening. The Raiders are now 1-9 overall on the season with three straight home losses in overtime. Lesley evens their record to 4-4-3 overall.

Rivier senior Dan Connelly (Bedford, N.H.) broke the scoreless tie in the 77th minute as he placed a free kick shot into the upper right to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Lesley would storm right back as Erik Johansen riffled a pass from Chris Anderson into the back of the net just less than two minutes after the Connelly tally to knot things up at 1.

The game would go into double overtime where Anderson placed a free kick into the box where Harrison Sidell was able to get his head on it and net the game winner for the Lynx.

Sophomore goalkeeper Gary Archambault (Auburn, N.H.) made eight saves for the Raiders. Trevor Martin, who came off the bench for James Webb, made one save for Lesley.

The Lynx slightly outshot the Raiders, 20-17 and also held the edge on the corners with 4-3.

Rivier will enjoy a full week of rest as they will travel to Lasell College on Saturday, October 11 for their next scheduled contest. Lesley will host Fitchburg State University on Wednesday evening.
