Men's Soccer cliped in double OT by Mount Ida

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team dropped a heartbreaking double overtime decision to visiting Mount Ida College this afternoon, 2-1 in a thrilling Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Raider Field.

The Mustangs were able to get on the board in the 32nd minute as Tyler Grothusen received a thru ball from Michael Templeton and was able to split the defense to sneak a shot past Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Gary Archambault (Auburn, N.H.).

With time winding down, the Raiders were awarded a free kick from about 30 yards out. Sophomore Kyle Gambeski (Bedford, N.H.) placed the ball inside the box where junior Peter Juneau (Rochester, N.H.) was able to get his head on it to deflect it over the outstretched arms of Mat Pils to tie the game with 48 seconds to play.

Mount Ida was able to get the game winner just over 4 minutes into the second overtime stanza as Carlos Martinez lined a shot into the upper right corner after Elias Mejia set him up off a free kick.

Archambault finished with four saves while Pils recorded three saves. The Raiders were outshot 17-6 throughout the contest.

The Raiders will return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel across town for a non-conference tilt at Daniel Webster College, 4pm start. Mount Ida will host Emmanuel College in their next scheduled contest on October 4th.
