Field Hockey Races Past Anna Maria, 7-1

NASHUA, N.H. – Seven unanswered goals propelled the Rivier field hockey team to a 7-1 victory over Anna Maria on Wednesday night at Merrill Field, leveling out the squad's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) record at 3-3. With the win, the Raiders now sit at 3-6, while Anna Maria fell to 2-8 (2-5 GNAC) in the setback.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the first quarter, Madison Bovill would equalize for Rivier 5:38 later as she fired a shot from the center of the shooting circle after battling for a loose ball off a corner.

In the opening two minutes of the second quarter, Reilly Swislosky would put the Raiders up 2-1 after sneaking a shot in past AMCATS goalkeeper Carly Dedrick off a rebound, putting Rivier up by one before halftime.

Chloe Sicard would open the second half with another Rivier goal, putting back a rebound that found her stick in the middle of the circle. The Raiders would go on to score three more goals in the third quarter to earn a five-goal cushion heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Bovill would add her second goal of the evening with 12:05 left to wrap up the scoring and seal the deal in Rivier's third win of the season.

Rivier outshot the AMCATS, 33-1, with 22 shots landing on target. The Raiders also earned 13 penalty corners in the outing, limiting the visitors to none. Both Kylie Coupal and Lily Gifford spent time in goal in the triumph.

The victory marked just the second win for Rivier in the all-time series, and the first since Oct. 13, 2021.

The Raiders will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a road matchup at GNAC foe Albertus Magnus, with a 1:30 p.m. start time scheduled from Celetano Field.
