Field Hockey Earns First Win, Shutting Down Regis, 7-1

NASHUA, N.H. - The Rivier field hockey team collected its first win of the season at home in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play against Regis on Saturday evening at Merrill Field, downing the Pride by a final score of 7-1. Today's victory marked head coach Hayley Sutherland's first win as a Raider.

The Raiders (1-3-0, 1-2-0 GNAC) put on a show in the first quarter, piling in four goals. Madison Streeter was able to get the Pride goalkeeper, Sarai Velez, to come out of her net to defend the ball, but Streeter quickly passed to Reilly Swislosky who tapped in her first goal of the season at 2:19.

A few minutes later, Sydney Spenard found Chloe Sicard who dribbled to the right side of the shooting circle to fire in the second Riv goal.

Later, Spenard fought off the Pride defenders to put the Raiders ahead 3-0 with an unassisted goal with five minutes left in the quarter.

Off of a penalty corner, Kayla Miles fed the ball to Madison Bovill who sent a laser to the back of the cage, recording Riv's fourth goal of the game at 11:23.

Rivier kept the pressure on Regis and was able to get another goal in the second quarter. Streeter back hand chipped the ball catching a defenders stick, sending it into the air and over Velez's head into the net, increasing the lead to 5-0.

Frankie Alley was able to get the Pride (0-6-0, 0-2-0 GNAC) on the scoreboard, when she snuck a goal by Riv goalkeeper Kylie Coupal, in the second quarter.

In the third, Swislosky pushed in her second goal of the game for the Raiders.

Miles took another penalty corner in the fourth quarter, injecting the ball to Spenard who launched in the final goal of the game and her second of the night.

Coupal earned the win, allowing just one goal while saving two shots in the first half. Lily Gifford also contributed with two saves for the Raiders.

Rivier will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when the Raiders face Plymouth St. in non-conference play with a start time of 5:00 p.m. at home on Merrill Field.
