Field Hockey Falls to Pilgrims in Season Opener

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team lost 3-2 in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener to New England Col. on Wednesday evening at Don Melander Field. 

Graduate student Madison Streeter got the scoring started quickly for the Raiders (0-1-0) in the first quarter, recording a goal within the first two minutes. Streeter tapped in her second goal of the game with an assist credited to Reilly Swislosky, putting Riv ahead by two. 

The Pilgrims (2-0-0) answered back, putting up two goals in the third quarter to tie the score.  

Late in the fourth quarter, NEC took the lead when Drea Chin snuck one past Kylie Coupal. The Raiders were able to get four shots off after this goal but were unable to find the back of the net. 

The Pilgrims outshot the Raiders 30-20 with Coupal making 13 saves in the setback.

The Raiders are back on the road on Saturday, Sept. 9 to face the Sharks of Simmons in GNAC action at 11:00 a.m. at Daly Field.
