(New London, NH) The Rivier University Field Hockey team traveled up to Colby-Sawyer College this afternoon for a regularly scheduled North Atlantic Conference contest. However, the Raiders were not able to come away victorious as the Chargers won 3-0.
Rivier falls to 4-8 overall and are still searching for their first NAC win of the season. Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the NAC.
Colby-Sawyer junior Jess Buckley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored her team leading sixth goal of the season less than three minutes into the game to put the home team on top 1-0. Buckley scored into the lower left side of the cage after she corralled the ball off a goalie deflection.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead into the half and held an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners and a 4-0 edge in shots.
Colby-Sawyer went in front by two at 46:21 on a nice goal by junior Alexa Comesanas (Germantown, N.Y.) that was set up by freshman Erika Leach (Barrington, N.H.). The goal was Comesanas' second of the season.
Leach put the game out of reach three minutes later when she scored her first collegiate goal.
Rivier goalie Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) made a pair of stops in the loss. Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) did not have to make a save in the shutout victory.
The Chargers finished the game with a 9-0 edge in shots and an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Rivier will host Simmons on Wednesday evening (5pm) while Colby-Sawyer will host New England College, also on Wednesday,
