Raiders fall on the road at Fisher

(Lynn, MA) The Rivier College Raiders scored five runs in the seventh inning but it wasn't enough as they fell to Fisher College, 15-6 in non-conference baseball action this evening.

Rivier (1-13 overall, 0-2 GNAC) got on the board in the top half of the first as junior catcher John DiBenedetto (Valerico, FL) lifted a sacrifice fly to left that plated leadoff man sophomore JJ Montello (Nashua, NH).

The lead was short lived however as the Falcons (6-15 overall) tied it up in the bottom half of the frame on a bases loaded Hit By Pitch.

Fisher would go on to plate 11 more runs before Rivier would get back on the board with five runs in the seventh, including a RBI single from freshman Garris Davis (Brockton, MA).

The 11 hit attack for the Raiders was led by senior Kevin Weaver (Hudson, NH). He went a solid 3-for-5 at the plate to raise his 2012 batting average to .425. Senior Kevin Romero (Waterbury, CT) was 1-for-3 with 2 walks and a RBI while freshman Bryar King (Berlin, NH) added 2 hits (2-for-5). Montello recorded 2 base knocks from atop the Raider order and junior Aramis Velez (Lowell, MA) checked in with a hit and a run scored.

On the mound, freshman Lucas Palma (Bristol, CT) took the loss to fall to 0-4 on the season. He tossed 5.1 innings allowing 11 runs (8 earned) on 10 hits while striking out 5. Junior Justin Chenevert (Wilmington, MA) made his 7th apperance for Rivier as he pitched the final 2 outs of the sixth inning. Montello allowed a run in the seventh and DiBenedetto pitched a scoreless eighth in his first collegiate ptiching appearence.

This was the first ever meeting between the two programs and the first time that Head Coach Anthony Perry and Assistant Coach Mike Oliveira had a chance to face their Alma Matta and baseball coach Scott Dulin.

Rivier will return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Worcester, MA and take on Becker College in a 4pm non-conference game.
