King pitches Raiders to first win of 2012

(Auburndale, FL) Behind a solid pitching performance from freshman Bryar King (Berlin, NH), the Rivier College Baseball team earned their first victory of the 2012 season by defeating Northland College, 5-2.

King allowed just 6 hits and two earned runs in his 5.1 innings of work. Senior Kevin Weaver (Hudson, NH) came in and closed it out with a hitless 1.2 innings of relief.

Offensively the Raiders (1-3 overall) were jump started by Weaver, who was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Also contributing in the victory was junior Aramis Velez (Lowell, MA), who went 2-for-4, and Matthew St. Peter (Colchester, VT) who was a perfect 2-for-2 on the day. Freshman Garris Davis (Brockton, MA) recorded his first collegiate hit and RBI in the three run second inning for Rivier.

Junior Kyle Bowser (Newington, NH) was the defensive standout in the game as he continued to make spectacular diving catches in centerfield.

"It's a great feeling knowing that all of the hard work this group of guys put in during the pre-season is beginning to take off." Head Coach Anthony Perry said following the game. "To get that first win of the season (and of his career) is something special that we believed we could do."

Rivier Baseball will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon as they have a 12pm doubleheader against Cazenovia College.
