Men's Volleyball: #14 Rivier downs #10 Kean University in straight sets

(Union, N.J.) The Rivier University Men's Volleyball team opened the Kean University Invitational tonight with a clean 3-0 win over the hosts, Kean University in a matchup of ranked American Volleyball Coaches Association programs. The Raiders, ranked #14 in the country, took the game by set scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-20 over the #10 ranked Cougars.

Rivier (2-2 overall) was led by senior Ian Wolski (Westfield, Mass.) who was electric all night. Wolski accumulated 10 kills with nine digs and two total blocks as he was the team leader in all categories. Juniors Matt Heckler (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Grant Andler (Chicago, Ill.) each added seven kills of their own while sophomore Khayen Yocca (Pittsburgh, Pa.) totaled five kills in the win. Directing the team offense was senior Tyler Blank (Rochester, N.Y.) who dished out 28 assists and junior libero Garrett Bucklin (Jamestown, R.I.) provided eight digs on the defensive side of the net. Freshman Cam Roth (Coventry, R.I.) chipped in with a four-kill, eight-dig effort for the Raiders.

Kean saw Jacob Kauffman match Wolksi for the match-high of 10 kills while adding four total blocks along the net. Nick Breslin controlled the back line for the Cougars with eleven digs and Ian Capp had a total of 16 assists in the three set match.

Rivier will return to the court tomorrow morning as they square off against Hunter College (9am) and #8 Vassar College.
