Men’s Lacrosse Stunned by Lasers

AUBURNDALE, MA: Rivier men's lacrosse lost to Lasell University today in conference play on the road.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/8/23

- Score: Lasell 10, Rivier 8

- Records: Rivier (8-3, 4-2 GNAC), Lasell (6-5, 4-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Raiders won the first quarter scoring four goals, while Lasell only put up one goal. Defenseman Adam Hailey (Salem, NH) of the Raiders scored his second goal of the season to start off the game. Riv's Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) was up next with an unassisted goal at 9:16 on the clock. Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH) took advantage of the man up opportunity to fire in a Raiders goal. Jeffery Potter (North Bennington, VT) recorded his man up goal shortly after with an assist granted to Heitmiller. With 1:05 left in the quarter, Lasers' Jack Tauson dodged Rivier's defenders to collect a goal with an assist from Landon Reyes.

- It was a silent second quarter for the Raiders. Lasell accumulated four goals within six minutes. Lasers' Reyes scored his second goal of the game with an assist credited to Adam Haytayan. Ryan Stone of Lasell was able to find Will McCarthy who added on a goal. Lasers' Anthony DeRosa managed to find the back of the net on a man up opportunity with an assist from Stone to tie the game at 4-4. Patrick Mulhern put away Lasell's final goal of the half.

- The Raiders fell behind in the third quarter, scoring just one goal. Lasell's Nate Taggart snuck by Riv's defenders to record an unassisted goal. Mulhern netted a goal at 5:50 in the third with an assist from Stone. Rivier's Nicholas Tavares (Danvers, MA) scored his first goal of the game with an assist credited to Heitmiller. Mulhern was back scoring another goal for the Lasers with an assist from Haytayan at 4:16 in the quarter.

- Raiders' Tavares tapped in a man up goal four minutes into the fourth quarter. Heitmiller buried a goal later on in the quarter. David Burke of Lasell put away a goal at 1:17 on the clock. Heitmiller answered back with another goal and an assist from Potter. Stone was able to score with 33 seconds left in the game for the Lasers, increasing their lead to two goals.

- Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) of Rivier recorded 11 saves and was tagged with the loss. Michael Catalano of Lasell saved 17 shots and was granted the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Ground Balls: Lasell 26, Rivier 23

- Penalties: Lasell 7 minutes 30 seconds on 8 infractions, Rivier 2 minutes 30 seconds on 4 infractions
