Men’s Lacrosse Surpasses Monks 13-8

NASHUA, NH: Rivier men's lacrosse took down the Monks of Saint Joseph's College this evening in GNAC play.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/4/23

- Score: Rivier 13, SJC 8

- Records: Rivier (8-2, 4-1 GNAC), SJC (5-7, 3-2 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The first quarter was all Jeffery Potter (N. Bennington, VT) and Michael Ferrence (Salem, NH) for the Raiders. Both netted two goals in the opening quarter. Tim Goodfellow and Tiger Hopkins each scored a goal for the visiting Monks to get a 4-2 score after one.

- Potter started the second quarter with his third goal of the contest to increase Riv's lead. Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) would score on a man-up opportunity just over a minute later, putting the score at 6-2. Xavier Michaud and Noah Honan would each respond with back-to-back goals to close the gap between the two teams to just two. The quarter continued with a fourth Potter goal and a first career goal by defenseman Adam Hailey (Salem, NH), who snuck down the field on a fast break, receiving a pass from Eck on the crease. The half would come to a close with another Michaud goal to get a halftime score of 8-5.

- Rivier would come out of the break to score two quick goals from Nicholas Tavares (Danvers, MA) and a fifth from Potter. The lone goal in the quarter from the monks was scored by Hopkins, making the Raider lead just four (10-6). However, Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH) would put it back to five on his first goal of the contest in the final minutes of the third.

- The final quarter was all Tavares, who scored the last two goals for the Raiders. Max Lacy scored the first goal of the fourth quarter before Tavares' run of two goals putting the score to 13-7. The night would end with one last Monk goal by Goodfellow to get the final of 13-8.

- In net, Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) would get the win (8-2) after making ten saves on 18 shots. Brannon Gilbert was tagged with the loss (5-4) after allowing 13 goals and making eight saves.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Potter topped all players with 5 goals and 5 assists.

-  Shots: Rivier 42, SJC 30

-  Ground Balls: Rivier 36, SJC 25
