Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down Spartans

CASTLETON, VT: Rivier men's lacrosse takes down Castleton University in non-conference action to obtain their first win of the season.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/8/23

- Score: Rivier 10, Castleton 4

- Records: Rivier (1-1), Castleton (1-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders got on the board first in a low scoring half. Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) netted his first of the season to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The Spartans evened the score two minutes later on a Chris LaBonte goal. Rivier would go up by two at the end of the first quarter on back-to-back goals by Nicholas Tavares (Danvers, MA) and Jeffery Potter (Bennington, VT).

- The second quarter only saw one goal by the Spartans Ethan Esposito to get a halftime score of 3-2.

- Rivier would go on a seven-goal run, with five coming in the third quarter. Potter started the run with his second goal of the game. Michael Ference (Salem, NH) made his presence known by scoring three straight goals of his own. Tavares would end the quarter with his second of the game.

- The fourth quarter started with Potter's third goal of the game to push the Raiders lead to 9-2. Eck added another to mark his second of the game. Castleton would stop the Rivier run with 6:09 left in the quarter. Ian Edgar scored the final two goals in the game, with the second coming at 1:45 on a man up opportunity.

- Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) got the win (1-1) after making 11 saves. Christopher Dindino was tagged with the loss (1-2) after making 11 saves.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Rivier 41, Castleton 29

-  Ground Balls: Rivier 34, Castleton 23

-  Turnovers: Castleton 24, Rivier 22

- Rivier men's lacrosse will be back Saturday on Joanne Merrill Field against Southern Maine at 1 pm.
