Men’s Lacrosse Scores Six in Fourth Quarter to Top Mass Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, MA: Rivier men's lacrosse came back in the fourth quarter on six goals to take down Mass Maritime in non-conference action.  
THE BASICS:
- Date: 3/15/23
- Score: Rivier 13, Maritime 9
- Records: Rivier (3-1), Maritime (3-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-  The first half saw a one-point difference going into the break in favor of the Buccaneers, 5-4. Mitchell Maida carried Maritime through the first half scoring both of their goals in the first quarter and a third in the second quarter. Daniel Kane netted the other two goals for the Bucs. 
- Rivier got on the board to close out the first quarter on a Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH) man-up goal. Michael Ference (Salem, NH) found the back of the net for the first time in the second quarter. Coby Mercier (Boscawen, NH) would go on a two-goal run to end the scoring for the Raiders in the half.  
- The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Maritime started the scoring off in the second half with a new face in Jack Iverson. The Raiders would answer back to still be chasing one on Ference's second goal of the game. Iverson would put the Buccaneers back up by two with 8:26 left in the third. Rivier would tie it up 7-7 with back-to-back goals by Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) and Trevor Reilly (Newington, CT). Ryan McDonough would end the quarter putting his team back up by one 8-7. 
- The fourth quarter was taken over by Eck, who went on to score three goals. Two came on man-up opportunities giving him a game-high four goals. Ference would tack on another giving him the hat trick. 
- Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) got the win (3-1) in net for the Raiders after making 13 saves on 22 shots. John Aidonidis was tagged with the loss (2-1) after allowing 13 goals and making seven saves.   
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-  Shots: Maritime 46, Rivier 28
-  Turnovers: Maritime 21, Rivier 18
-  Ground Balls: Maritime 35, Rivier 27
