PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rivier University Women's Soccer team was defeated this afternoon by Johnson and Wales University, 7-1 at the SMAC Turf Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 2-10-2 and a 0-8-1 mark against the conference while the Wildcats improve to 11-5 overall, 9-0 in the GNAC.

JWU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to Cat Nolan. Nolan scored the first of her two first half goals in the 19th minute and then again just 2.5 minutes later.

The Wildcats extended their lead in the 57th minute when Molly McCormack headed in a cross from Chloe Henriksen. In the 70th minute, Chloe Martinez made it 4-0 in favor of the hosts as she converted a pass from Jaclyn Larsen.

Rivier then answered in the 76th to break the clean sheet. Junior Ashley Glynn (Salem, N.H.) perfectly placed a feed from freshman Mikayla Zulon (East Bridgewater, Mass.) over the head of the Wildcat goalie to make it a 4-1 game.

However Johnson & Wales added three more goals in the final 13 minutes of play to record the 7-1 victory. Olivia Cairrao, Tiana Strachan and Jenna Dzubak each scored unassisted tallies to close out the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) was busy all afternoon as she stopped 14 of the 21 shots she faced on net. JWU's Collen Lynch made just one save on two chances for the Wildcats.

Next up for the Raiders will be another conference tilt on Wednesday night as they host Simmons University to Joanne Merrill Field. Game time is set for 7pm.
