NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University Women's Soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback this evening to visiting Nichols College under the lights at Joanne Merrill Field. The loss sends the Raiders below .500 with an overall record of 2-3-2 while the Bison improve to an 8-1-0 start to their year.

Nichols gained the 1-0 advantage in the 41st minute as corner kick from freshman Niah Samboy (Berlin, Conn.) was deflected in front of the net to the foot of graduate student Meghan Dunn (Dudley, Mass.). Dunn was able to corral the ball and tuck it inside the near side post for her 7th goal of the season.

The Bison added to the lead in the 70th minute when junior Abby Bassett (Burrillville, R.I.) notched her second goal of the season off a loose ball at the top of the 18.

Raider senior goalkeeper Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) made five saves on the night while her counterpart, Nichols sophomore Olivia Marcantonio (North Smithfield, R.I.) stopped all four shots she faced on net for her fifth shutout of the year.

Rivier will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference action in their next scheduled contest on Saturday afternoon as they host Albertus Magnus College at Joanne Merrill Field for a 1pm kickoff. Nichols will also return to conference play (Commonwealth Coast) on Saturday morning as they host Salve Regina University beginning at 11am
