Women's Soccer: Wescott scores twice; Raiders fall in OT to Norwich 3-2

NORTHFIELD, VT – The Rivier University Women's Soccer team scored two goals in a 51 second span to force the extra time, however they ultimately fell to Norwich University 3-2 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening. The Raiders are now 2-9-2 overall on the season with a 0-7-1 conference record while the Cadets improve to 5-8-1 overall, 4-4-1 against the GNAC.

Trailing 2-0 with less than 25 minutes left to play, junior Madison Wescott (Tewksbury, Mass.) stepped up and cut the deficit in half as she converted a pass off the end line from sophomore Jaida Mitchell (Raymond, N.H.) in the 71st minute. Seconds later, Wescott tied the game at 2 all as she collected a rebound off the crossbar from freshman Makayla Zulon (East Bridgewater, Mass.) shot from 30 yards out and buried her shot into the left corner of the net.

In the first overtime period, Norwich's Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) netted the golden goal with 2:24 remianing to lift the Cadets to victory.

Rivier senior goalkeeper Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) made seven saves for the Raiders while Norwich keeper Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) stopped two of the four shots she faced on net.

The Raiders will look to rebound in their next scheduled contest on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Providence, R.I. for a GNAC date with Johnson & Wales University. Kickoff is slated for 4pm. Norwich will also be in conference action on Saturday afternoon as they visit Lasell University at 3pm.
