Rivier Women edge Colby-Sawyer, 2-1

New London, NH - The Rivier Women's Soccer team earned their first victory of the 2011 season this afternoon with a 2-1 win over Colby-Sawyer in non-conference action.

Sophomore Lauren Tamposi (Hollis, NH/Gould Academy) gave Rivier an early 1-0 lead as she took a pass from Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA/Tygnsboro) and buried it past the diving Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper, Shalyn Spencer (Natick, MA) in the 17th minute.

Just seven minutes later, sophomore Deanna Cetto (Sterling, MA/Wachusett Regional) came down the right side of the field and ricochetted a shot off the far post and it took a Raider bounce to give Rivier a 2-0 lead.

Colby-Sawyer would get on the board with a goal late in the first half. With about 4 minutes left CSC freshman Michelle Upham (Chelsea, VT) knocked a loose ball into the back of the net to make it a one goal game at the half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Surber (Langdon, NH/Fall Mountain) stopped 9 of 10 shots she saw as the Raiders have evened their 2011 record at 1-1.

Rivier will take on New England College tomorrow (9/4) with a 12pm kick off at the Colby-Sawyer Labor Day Tournament.
