Connelly's goal not enough as Elms upends Rivier 7-1

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier College Men's Soccer team dropped a tough non-conference game tonight against Elms College, 7-1 in front of about 60 people up at Raider Field.

The Blazers were led offensively by Ziggy Jonathan. Jonathan recorded the first two goals of the game and later added two goals in the second half while assisting on two other goals. He registered a total of 10 points on the night.

Rivier had a bit of a bright spot in the game. Freshman Danny Connelly (Bedford, NH) netted his first collegiate goal when he split two defenders and out-ran them inside the 58th minute. It was the Raiders first goal of the season.

Fellow freshman Bryar King (Berlin, NH) made 17 saves  for the Raiders in defeat. Elms goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan stopped 2 of the 3 shots he saw for the win.

With just two games left in 2011, the Raiders will play their final road game of the season next. On Saturday, they will travel up to Northfield, Vermont and battle a talented Norwich University squad in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up.
