Men’s Ice Hockey Downed at Plymouth St.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Rivier men's ice hockey team fell 5-1 to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent Plymouth St. on Saturday evening at Hanaway Rink.

With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 5-15-1 (1-12-1 MASCAC), while the Panthers improved to 17-5-0 (14-1-0 MASCAC).

Plymouth St. took an early 2-0 lead in the first period, with their first goal coming at the 4:40 mark and the second at 10:09, following 46 seconds of sustained offensive zone control.  Rivier responded 38 seconds later as graduate forward Cody Rumsey won the faceoff and connected with senior forward Cormac Hayes who put a shot on net. Senior forward Jon Tavella positioned himself in the front of the net, anticipating a rebound and tucked in the goal, cutting Plymouth St.'s lead to 2-1.

Plymouth St. carried their offensive momentum into the second period as the Panthers added two more goals to their tally and outshot Rivier 22-5 in the frame. Plymouth St. added a final point to the tally at the 16:55 mark of the third period, securing the 5-1 victory. 

Senior goalkeeper LJ Newell recorded 41 saves in the loss. 

The Raiders return to the ice on Thursday, February 13, when they face MASCAC foe Westfield St. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. at Amelia Park Ice Arena.
