GOFFSTOWN, N.H. — The Rivier men's ice hockey team was defeated by Plymouth St. in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) battle on Thursday night at Sullivan Arena on the campus of Saint Anselm College.
With the loss, the Raiders drop to 4-7-1 (0-4-1 MASCAC) while the Panthers improve to 9-4-0 (6-0-0 MASCAC).
Plymouth St., who is receiving votes in the latest USCHO Division III Poll, got on the board first as Brendan Doyle lit the lamp just 5:40 into the first period. Rivier's Damon Kiyawasew evened the score with Rivier's lone goal of the night less than two minutes later to make it a 1-1 game at the first intermission.
The Panthers struck for two goals in the second period, before tacking on three additional goals within the final 20 minutes to pull away with a 6-1 victory.
Rivier was outshot 46-22 in the setback. Senior netminder LJ Newell made 34 stops before first-year Josh Kirton made six saves in the final 8:52 of regulation in a relief appearance.
The Raiders return to Conway Arena on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they take on Westfield St. in a MASCAC clash with puck drop set for 6:40 p.m.
